September General Meeting
Mark your calendars! The AIA Executive Board of Directors has announced that the September meeting will be held at Colonial Heights High School on Sunday, September 21st from 1-4pm.  This is an extremely important meeting for all instructors who wish to have an impact on AIA policy.  Delegates will be electing Executive Board member positions and voting on proposals from the June meeting. Your attendance will directly impact which proposals are put into effect for the 2008-2009 winter season. -Full Article Here-

Clayton HS Percussion

The Clayton High School Percussion Ensemble is comprised of 23 student members who compete in the WGI Scholastic Concert open class. The Clayton staff includes directors Jake McAllister and John Pearson, along with composer Mike Worley. This team of people, along with students and parents, created a show that achieved a final score of 91.35 and a 4th place finish at WGI Championships. Making the most of rehearsal time, creating an environment that encourages student leadership, and accessing parental support are all contributing factors to the overall success of this organization. -Full Article Here-

Instructor Clinic Success

On Saturday, June 14th AIA instructors and staff members met at Christopher Newport University for an Instructor’s Clinic, the first of many services AIA hopes to provide its member units. Under the direction of Phil Madden and William Chumley, attendees explored the creative process in order to learn how to effectively craft strong show concepts, storyboards, and show moments. -Full Article Here-

JMU Band Clinic
James Madison University, home of the Marching Royal Dukes and Nuance Winterguard, will be hosting a Summer Band Camp July 6th through 10th.  James Madison University is located in Harrisonburg, VA. Parents--this camp is a great opportunity for your son or daughter!

GMU Guard & Drumline Clinic
This summer as part of the Potomac Academy, George Mason University will be hosting a Drumline and Colorguard Clinic at its Fairfax campus on July 30th, 31st, and August 1st.  Open to rising 9th graders and above, this clinic offers intense coaching featuring some of the Washington D.C. area's most inspiring and visionary instructors.

The Airblade

In May, Band Shoppe released the exciting new “Air Blade.”  The Air Blade is an alternative equipment choice for your weapons book.  It functions similar to a rifle when spinning but certainly has a much less traditional “look.”
